I really enjoyed this movie. The theatre was packed when I saw it & everyone seemed to enjoy it as much as I did. Debbie Reynolds was well cast as the Mother, who still unintentionally constantly embarrasses her oldest son, played by Albert Brooks. "Mother" explores everyone's run-of-the-mill dysfunctional family & and makes some extremely interesting observations about it. Watching this movie was like watching family scenes played out with my relatives. Albert is a successful, semi-well known Science Fiction writer who has just had his second divorce. He is searching for the reason why he is attracted to women who "don't believe in him". Albert goes home to mom where he is known as & introduced constantly as "the Other Son". My favorite line comes when he first decides to go home. Debbie tells him "I love you." Albert responds, "I sure you think you do". Albert figures out his problems & gets to know his mom better as an adult person and not just as his mom. Meanwhile, we find out why his brother, "The Good Son", is referred to that way. I know my review of this movie doesn't exactly make you want to run right out & see this movie, but it really is wonderful and the observations Albert Brooks makes about family dynamics are right on target (but not uncomfortably so). FOR ANY ONE WHO HAS EVER HAD A MOM OR A DAD, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU GO SEE "MOTHER"!
