I really liked this movie alot! At the same time, this is not a movie for everybody (Attention guys: This is a "chick" movie, not a sexy or action movie). Of the two High School reunion movies out & about, this is definetly the lesser of the two (The better one being "Gross Point Blank"). This is still worth seeing though.
This being said, this a comedy about two best friends since high school, Romy (Mira Sorvino) & Michelle (Lisa Kudrow) and how they get ready to go back for their 10-year reunion at Sagebrush High School in Tuscon, AZ. There's alot of flashbacks to the eighties & some good fantasy moments about the reunion as well as what happened to everyone once they got there. Both Romy & Michelle are typical blonde airheads, but happy. Janeane Garafalo is funny as usual as the cynical, depressed science nerd who still carries a torch for a fellow nerd.
Romy & Michelle are happy, former classmates are unhappy & belittling others to make themselves feel better. We find out what's really happening, but the characters are not made to feel bad that anyone found out (nor are they aware anyone has). The point of this movie is not about revenge - there is no revenge against anyone for any percieved bad behavior when everyone was in high school but about being happy with yourself.

Bottom line: This is a cute girls night out video. Positive bonding & has a lot of laughs. Even more importantly, it gets the eighties right unlike some other eighties' flashback movies like "The Wedding Singer."

BTW - if you're looking for eighties soundtracks, both Gross Pointe Blank & Romy&Michelle have sound tracks. Gross Pointe uses more Darker/Artsy stuff while Romy & Michelle used the happier stuff like Bow Wow Wow's "I Want Candy" & the Go-Gos.
